Death of a Salesman Act I Questions

"Terrific, Terrific job boys, good work!" (17). How do the real world characters contrast from the dream world characters in the first dream sequence?

  1. Well, you see here...
    1) the real world characters are grown men, dream world characters are boys
    2) the boys in dream world seem to have a closer bond with their father still, rather than real world
3)dream world boys idolize their father, real world boys criticize their father
" BIFF: Where'd you go this time, Dad? Gee we were lonesome for you" (pg. 18)
    4) dream world Willy clearly favors Biff, real world Willy struggles in his relationship with Biff
    5) dream world Biff is successful, real world Happy is the successful of the two

  3. Another difference is that in the dream world characters do not go through doors or up or down stairs, eg. "(They move thorugh the wall-line into the kitchen"(22).

    1. So, interesting--real world people are limited, confined, while dream world people, the possibilities Willy missed, are limitless. Connected to how Willy keeps asking successful people, "what's the secret?" (To Ben and in act 2 to Bernard, can't find # right now)
